Nurturing students to be independent and generous to help them become nursing professionals who can provide holistic care
Based on the various needs that accompany the progress of aging societies and the need to maintain and improve QOL (quality of life), nursing professionals are greatly expected to play a major role in providing human caring and holistic care. The Department of Nursing Science aims to nurture nursing professionals who possess abundant knowledge and reliable skills, and are able to contribute to people living a healthy, fulfilling life in their own style. The department will develop nursing professionals who are able to provide holistic care and possess the independence to seek their own development, and depth, breadth and flexibility as individuals.
I am currently assigned to the obstetrics ward of a hospital. I devote myself to providing heartfelt nursing care that shares the joy of patients in the process of the pregnancy and giving birth, while also supporting the mental health of those who feel anxiety towards pregnancy or giving birth. I feel great satisfaction in seeing the smiling faces of mothers and their children when they are discharged from the hospital. From this fiscal year, I became a member of the outpatient midwife team, and I am experiencing the real pleasure of a midwife, which cannot be found in the obstetrics ward or delivery center.
Nurturing specialists who have scientific eyes to see the reciprocal relationship between diet and health, and contribute towards building health
Health and diet are closely related in people, such that it is said“a balanced diet leads to a healthy body.” In modern society, with the arrival of a super-aging society and the changes in disease structure, there are many issues related to health and diet. The goal of the Department of Nutritional Science is to nurture professionals who can contribute widely to regional society by maintaining and improving people’s health, and seeking to prevent and cure disease based on the nutritional sciences.
I prepare meal menus that account for both the condition and preferences of patients. As part of NST, which is jointly carried out by professionals with different specialized areas to deal with one patient, I support patient care from the nutritional aspect. When the patient has recovered to be able to eat meals, I feel great satisfaction. Furthermore, when I review meals with a patient, and in response to the target weight they share positive words such as, “I’ll work towards it positively,” I am also encouraged to do my best in supporting them.

The Department of Health and Welfare Science is divided into the two courses of “Social Welfare Study” and “Childhood Study.”The Course of Social Welfare Study seeks to nurture welfare professionals who combine deep learning with an abundant character to support the independence and self-expression of all people, and contribute to the advancement of health and happiness based on a welfare perspective and methods. The Course of Childhood Study seeks to nurture childcare professionals who support the development and learning of children, while also understanding the home and community environment that surrounds them, and providing guidance and support while working together with the people involved.
I provide rehabilitation for severely physically and mentally handicapped children (and adults) through a support for their daily lives and interaction with them. In social welfare, there is no “correct answer,” and there are many days when I wonder what is best. Even so, when we held a sports day with the families of the facility, everyone enjoyed it very much. Even if a person only says, “aah,” the feeling they wish to express is different on a moment-to-moment basis. I want to understand those differences and help increase their happiness.
